Mazda claim their stock ECU and a standard 1.8 NB engine from the 1998 - 2000 Mazda MX-5 peaks out at 138bhp. While this is a very respectible figure, we have found that using the OMEX aftermarket ECU on a full glory run on the OMEX dyno, we achieved 158bhp.
With our IVA compliant engine map, we've also raised the red line limit on the after market ECU to 7000rpm.
The torque achieved by this engine management change is a very linear 133lb/ft.
If you're looking for a 160bhp conversion to your Mazda MX-5, then your normal choice would have been to replace the stock inlet plenium with throttle boddies, however, with just a change of ECU, we're not able to achieve these numbers.
One additional bonus with this ECU is that it's turbo compliant. There are enough electronic gizmo's in this ECU to control the boost on the turbo conversion, so if you're looking for a half way house while you're getting used to the power in your car, then this ECU upgrade could be for you.
This doesn't harness the power of the stock wiring loom from the MX-5, it's a completely bespoke loom, plug and ply ECU and more horsepower ouf of the box... what's not to like?
