One of the most common questions we get from customers after collecting their new car is:
“Has the DVLA completed my registration yet?”
The good news is that you don’t always need to wait for the V5 log book to arrive through the post to find out. There’s a simple online tool that lets you check whether your registration has already been processed by the DVLA.
How To Check Your Vehicle Registration Status
You can use the following website to check whether your new vehicle registration has been completed:
Simply enter your VIN / chassis number
The system will then tell you whether the vehicle appears on the DVLA database yet.
Why The Log Book Can Take Time
Once we submit your registration paperwork, the DVLA processes the application and assigns the registration number. In most cases this happens fairly quickly, but the physical V5C log book can sometimes take a little longer to arrive in the post.
This means your car may already be fully registered and road legal before you actually receive the paperwork at home.
Typical Registration Timeline
While times can vary depending on DVLA workload, the process usually looks something like this:
- Vehicle IVA completed and passed
- Registration application submitted to DVLA
- Registration number assigned
- Vehicle appears on DVLA systems
- V5C log book posted to customer
The online checker is a useful way of seeing whether step 4 has already happened.
Still Unsure?
If you’ve checked the system and still have questions about your registration status, feel free to contact the team at MK Sportscars and we’ll be happy to help.
We know the wait to get your new car on the road can feel like forever, but thankfully the online checker makes it much easier to keep track of progress.
