While it's not an exact science of measuring out the amount of oil required there is a dip stick that you can use.
Why can't we just measure out the oil? Well there are several factors which influence how much oil is used in your installation.
- Length of braided hose to and from your oil cooler
- Size of oil cooler
As a general rule, when doing an oil change and re-filling the car, we tend to go just a bit more than the maximum line on the dip stick. This allows for the billet sump, and oil cooler lines etc. to be sufficiently full.
The good news is that the engine will blow any over oil into the catch can, so you should always remember to inspect and drain the catch can if you don't want your engine bay covered in oil.
Test it, fill it, test it again and repeat.
As a side note, if you've drained the oil, then don't just try and start the car, as soon as you've changed the oil, make sure you turn it over first to prime the system and you can see oil pressure before you attempt to start it.
